When starting a new sewing project, everything begins with choosing your fabric. And this choice has more influence than you might think – not just on the drape and feel of the final piece, but also on how it makes you feel while sewing and wearing it.
In my studio, fabric decisions are rarely made on technical factors alone.
Of course, quality matters – but just as important is how the fabric feels, smells, and responds. Some fabrics spark ideas the moment you touch them. Others stay silent. And sometimes you simply know: “This is the one.”
What you might consider when choosing fabric:
🌿 Touch – How does your skin respond to the material? Does something in you tense – or does your body soften?
🎨 Color – Which shades make you glow, or feel grounded?
🎭 Pattern & energy – Is this a fabric that supports you, protects you, or asks to be seen?
🌙 Intuition – Sometimes the most expensive fabric isn’t the right one – and a leftover scrap of linen is exactly what you need. Trust your inner voice. It knows your body better than any pattern ever could.
In my book “The magic behind sewing- Volume 1”, I share how fabric is not just material – but a carrier of meaning: memory, intention, symbolism. When you choose fabric consciously, your sewing process becomes not only a craft – but a conversation with your deeper self.
Because sometimes, you’re not just sewing a garment.
You’re sewing your way back to you.
